Who? Book Arts members and their creative friendsWhat? Weekend Book & Paper Retreat at Earthsprings near Crockett, TXWhen? Friday May 1st until Sunday May 3rdWhere? visit www.earthsprings. net to see the beautiful piney woods of East Texas and to sense the tranquility to be found on 63 acres without cell phones and computers! Why? We all need a chance to get away and recharge our creative batteries. With our 3 meals provided for us each day, we are free to explore the grounds and/or spend our time at the spacious Lodge trying out new book techniques and exchanging ideas. As a theme, I suggest (and will coordinate): Decorative Spines, including Longstitch, Tacketed Spines, and traditional stitch patterns such as the Hemp Leaf, tortoise shell stitch, and the spider web stitch. We may also enjoy just bringing our own projects to work on, quilting bee style, where we can hang out together and share ideas but still do our own things. If there is enough interest, I will lead a papermaking session with natural elements from Earthsprings beautiful setting. Glenda, the owner, and I had discussed using the Sweet Gum saplings to make pulp. And How? Contact me, Lee Steiner, as soon as possible! The deadline to hold your space is March 16th! We need to put in a deposit to hold the Bunkhouse for that weekend so I ask everyone interested to commit $50 (approx. 1/3 of the cost for two nights)towards their stay. Glenda will give us a group discount AND last year's prices! I can't tell you how much I loved being at Earthsprings last summer. I will be at the Houston meeting next Thursday night, March 5th and would love to set this plan in motion! Please respond soon!sunny and cool,Lee
